Short Story 12

The Reapers

I like watching the water go in and out, it makes me feel like the Earth is alive and breathing. I feel like there is something special about the ocean, like it has so much incredible unspoken power. One second it is calm, the next rough, and then sometimes, it only seems calm but can pull you under and hold you there in a blink of an eye.

The sun is setting, and although these are strange times, I feel like I’ve earned a little peace, quiet and beauty in my life. I smile, because I made the right decision; the kaleidoscope of colours that are streaked across the sky only occurs on a rare occasion, and today apparently is that day. The Therapist

I have been a therapist for six months, and I don’t think this is the profession for me. I come in every day and can’t believe the stories and people I meet.

Sometimes I wonder if I should be the one in therapy, because time and time again I find myself unable to sympathise with the personality traits, which by all accounts are displayed only in those with personality disorders. Continue reading “Short Story 11”

Short Story 10

The Federal Agents

I’ve been thrown into the deep end. I’m always spitting out theories about this and that, but I never thought people actually pay attention to my life. I never thought in a million years that an intelligence agency would need my help.

I was sequestered to become a consultant on a case, and was greeted by federal agents at my door this morning. They are now transporting me to their headquarters and when I asked them where that is they said it’s on a need-to-know basis…but America. Continue reading “Short Story 10”

Short Story 9

The Bringer of Death

He had a burning pit of hate inside him. The type of heat and fire that consumes a person until there is nothing left in their soul, the type of intense anger that rivals that of hell itself, and the type of inferno that made him commit unspeakable acts. At least that’s what people tell me. I don’t believe what people say about him, they’re just rumours. Continue reading “Short Story 9”

Short Story 8

The Island

I’m a contradiction. I preach one thing to my friends and my family, but I can never follow through. There are so many expectations in my life, and I feel as though they never emulate from me.

I mean I get it, I’m supposed to be the star athlete, the most popular guy around or whatever, but Jesus I really hate all the attention. I think the best way to describe my best talent wouldn’t be football like my parents would say, or getting all the girls as my friends would say…no, I would describe myself as a brilliant actor. Short Story 7

The Scientists

I stood there in the street, blankly staring at people I don’t recognise. Quietly watching as mothers shoo their kids along, shielding them from the spectacle that is me. I’m pretty sure if I was in their shoes I would do the same. I mean, I’m not wearing shoes, I’m dirty, covered in dried blood and dirt; I must look like a desperate homeless person. Continue reading “Short Story 7”

Short Story 6

The River Runs Red

I grew up by the beach in Australia. It was hot, and that’s the way I liked it. For as long as I could remember, I have been fascinated by the woods, and having a cabin by water.

It’s not that strange really; I mean plenty of people have them in the movies, like a lake house or whatever. I like the idea of being close to nature, and I know what you’re thinking, you can be near nature in Australia. Well, I have news for you friend, Australia has countless creepy crawlies that can kill you. Redbacks and taipans are not my idea of fun. Continue reading “Short Story 6”

Short Story 5

The Soldier’s Brother

He was used to having structure in his life. He liked having a routine and orders; in a way it gave him a sense of purpose. It was in his blood, hell he was practically born into the army, with both parents in and out of deployment his whole childhood. But he never expected that he would be fighting for more than his country, he would be fighting for humanity.

Humanity…was it even worth saving? He always thought to himself, that every day you see the conflicts that arise inherently. It is a part of human nature, even the premise of everyone being an individual encourages differences in opinion, and sometimes humans do unspeakable things. Continue reading “Short Story 5”
